A wedding weekend near Scottsdale is one of my favorite ways to celebrate a wedding because the experience can extend far beyond the actual day. With luxury resorts, incredible restaurants, beautiful desert scenery, and plenty for guests to do, Scottsdale and the surrounding areas make it easy to turn a wedding into an entire getaway.

As a Scottsdale wedding photographer, I love when couples think about their wedding as more than just the ceremony and reception. A welcome dinner, pool day, morning-after brunch, or sunset gathering can give your guests a reason to truly enjoy being together, while also creating more opportunities for beautiful photographs throughout the weekend.

The key is finding a property that fits the kind of weekend you want to create. Some feel secluded and romantic. Others are lively and design-forward. Some are all about the desert landscape, while others make the resort itself the destination.

Here are some of my favorite places for wedding weekends near Scottsdale, along with what I love about each one and a few things to consider before booking.

Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Bungalows

If you want a wedding weekend that feels modern, relaxed, and design-conscious, Andaz Scottsdale is one of my first places to look. The property sits on 23 landscaped acres near Camelback Mountain and has a mid-century modern aesthetic that feels very different from some of the more traditional Scottsdale resorts. The bungalow-style layout also gives the property a more private, residential feeling rather than feeling like one enormous hotel.

From a photography perspective, I love the variety here. The desert landscape, mature trees, clean architectural lines, and mountain views give you plenty of options throughout the weekend. The resort also has several distinct event spaces, including Cholla Lawn, Albers Lawn, Studio Lawn, the Turquoise Pool Deck, and the Foundry Ballroom.

Why guests will love it: The resort has pools, spa amenities, dining, and plenty of space to relax between wedding events. Its location also puts guests close to Old Town Scottsdale and other attractions.

Potential downside: Andaz has a more contemporary personality than some of Scottsdale’s classic luxury resorts. If you’re envisioning a very traditional, formal ballroom wedding or old-world desert estate, this may not be the right aesthetic.

Best for: Design-forward couples, relaxed luxury, multi-day celebrations, and weddings where the resort itself is part of the experience.

Desert Mountain Club

For couples who want privacy and a true destination feel, Desert Mountain is a completely different experience. Located in North Scottsdale, Desert Mountain is known for its private mountain community, golf, and expansive Sonoran Desert surroundings. It feels much more secluded than staying in the middle of Scottsdale, which can be a major advantage if you’re hoping to create a wedding weekend where everyone feels like they’ve escaped somewhere together.

From a photography perspective, this is the kind of setting where I would lean heavily into the landscape. The mountains, desert vegetation, and open skies give you an opportunity to create portraits that feel distinctly Arizona without relying on a lot of décor.

Why guests will love it: The private club atmosphere, golf, desert scenery, and secluded setting make it feel like a true getaway.

Potential downside: The privacy is also part of the trade-off. This isn’t the choice for couples who want their guests to walk out of the resort and immediately be surrounded by Scottsdale restaurants, nightlife, and shopping.

Best for: Private destination weddings, golf weekends, couples who value seclusion, and celebrations centered around the desert landscape.

Mountain Shadows Resort

Mountain Shadows is another option to consider if you want your wedding weekend to feel more intimate and residential. Rather than the huge footprint of a major luxury resort, the setting lends itself well to a wedding weekend where guests can spend more time together. That can be especially appealing for couples who don’t want their wedding to feel like a large hotel conference event.

From a photography standpoint, I love properties that allow the wedding weekend to feel cohesive. When guests are staying close to the events, there are more opportunities for those in-between moments that don’t happen when everyone disappears back to separate hotels.

Think morning coffee with your family, getting ready together, cocktails before dinner, or an impromptu sunset gathering. Those are often some of my favorite images from a destination wedding weekend!

Why guests will love it: The smaller, more relaxed atmosphere can make a wedding weekend feel personal rather than overly structured.

Potential downside: Couples looking for the extensive restaurants, spa facilities, and entertainment options of a major luxury resort may prefer one of the larger properties on this list.

Best for: Smaller wedding weekends, intimate celebrations, and couples who prioritize time together over a large resort experience.

The Global Ambassador

Technically located in Phoenix rather than Scottsdale, The Global Ambassador is close enough to belong on this list, especially for couples who care more about the overall experience than the city limits. This is the pick for the couple who wants their wedding weekend to feel fashionable, energetic, and very design-driven.

The hotel opened in 2023 and has a strong emphasis on architecture, interiors, dining, and nightlife. Its five restaurant concepts include everything from a French bakery and Parisian steakhouse to a rooftop Mediterranean restaurant, giving guests plenty of reasons to stay on property throughout the weekend.

From a photography perspective, this is a very different look from the sprawling desert resorts. The interiors give you a more editorial, fashion-forward backdrop, while the Camelback Mountain setting keeps the location connected to Arizona.

Why guests will love it: The dining, rooftop atmosphere, spa, and overall energy make the hotel feel like a destination in itself.

Potential downside: This isn’t a traditional sprawling Arizona resort. The property is much more focused on design, dining, and atmosphere than expansive grounds, golf, or a huge pool complex.

Best for: Fashion-forward weddings, city-meets-desert celebrations, foodie couples, and guests who want a lively weekend.

Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale

For couples who want the quintessential luxury Scottsdale experience, Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale is hard to overlook. The resort sits in the high Sonoran Desert near Pinnacle Peak, which gives it a much more rugged landscape than some of the properties closer to central Scottsdale. The Troon Lawn, Fountain Terrace, and other outdoor spaces take advantage of those desert and mountain views, while the resort also offers substantial indoor event spaces.

This is one of my favorite types of property to photograph because the landscape already does so much of the work. The resort also offers a particularly strong setup for a full wedding weekend. Their wedding experience can extend to poolside gatherings, spa time, golf, dinners, and even dedicated elopement experiences.

Why guests will love it: The service, spa, golf, desert setting, and on-property amenities make it easy to create a full destination experience.

Potential downside: It’s farther north and more removed from Old Town Scottsdale. Guests who want easy access to Scottsdale’s restaurants and nightlife will have more driving to do.

Best for: Classic luxury, destination weddings, desert-focused photography, and couples who want a resort where guests can stay busy all weekend.

The Phoenician

The Phoenician is one of Scottsdale’s most recognizable luxury resorts and a great option for couples who want a wedding weekend with plenty of flexibility. The resort offers a large selection of ceremony and reception spaces, from the Orchid Lawn and Dream Lawn to the Canyon Patio, Grand Ballroom, and East Lawn & Patio. Some spaces are designed for smaller celebrations, while others can accommodate much larger guest counts.

From a photography perspective, I love the range of looks you can get without leaving the property. You can photograph around lush gardens and lawns, use the mountain as a backdrop, and then move into more formal architectural spaces for the reception.

Why guests will love it: There’s plenty to do on property, and the resort’s size means guests can create their own weekend rhythm between wedding events.

Potential downside: Because The Phoenician is a large resort, it doesn’t have the same secluded, intimate feeling as a smaller property. If privacy is your number-one priority, I’d look at Sanctuary or Desert Mountain instead.

Best for: Larger destination weddings, classic luxury, multi-event weekends, and couples who want plenty of venue flexibility.

Sanctuary Camelback Mountain

If your priority is the setting, Sanctuary Camelback Mountain is one of the most compelling options in the area. The property sits on Camelback Mountain in Paradise Valley and is built around sweeping views, landscaped grounds, and a more intimate resort experience. The wedding spaces include the Wedding Lawn, Paradise Views Patio, Views Terrace, Views Ballroom, Sunset Garden, and the Praying Monk venue.

From behind the camera, the views are the obvious draw. The mountains give portraits a dramatic sense of place, and the property’s gardens and architecture are also stunning. I also love the way this property lends itself to intimate weddings. Rather than feeling like a massive resort where your guests are spread across acres of property, it feels much more focused on the wedding experience itself.

Why guests will love it: The views, spa, intimate atmosphere, and proximity to both Scottsdale and Paradise Valley make it easy to enjoy a relaxing weekend destination.

Potential downside: The property is less suited to extremely large weddings than some of the bigger resorts. Some of the most dramatic spaces also have more limited capacities, so your guest count will play a major role in whether this is the right fit.

Best for: Intimate luxury weddings, mountain views, romantic celebrations, and couples who want a more secluded resort experience.

How to Choose the Right Scottsdale Wedding Weekend Location

The best wedding weekend venue isn’t necessarily the one with the biggest ballroom or the longest list of amenities.

Think about what you want your guests to remember and ask yourself questions like:

Do you want everyone to spend the weekend lounging by the pool? 
Are golf and spa days important? 
Do you want your guests to have easy access to restaurants and nightlife? 
Or would you rather everyone feel like they’ve escaped into the desert together?

Your style matters, too! A property like Four Seasons or Sanctuary gives you dramatic desert landscapes and mountain views. Andaz offers a more modern, design-forward look. The Global Ambassador brings a fashion and city feel. The Phoenician gives you a classic luxury resort experience with a huge amount of flexibility.

There isn’t one right answer! The right property is the one that supports the experience you want to create.
