Anna sent me a Pinterest board filled with ornate city architecture, clean lines, and moody editorial textures. Immediately, I knew we had to head downtown. I scoured Google Street View based on the inspiration she gave me and landed on the perfect location: The Benson Hotel.

The Benson Hotel: Old-World Charm With Luxury Flair

We kicked things off behind The Benson on a quiet Saturday morning. Parking was easy (rare in Portland on a Spring, Saturday morning!), and the tucked-away location gave us space to ease into the shoot.

The white stone façade and dramatic awning of The Benson gave us all the old money energy we were going for. Between the street and the couple’s perfectly styled neutral outfits, we were able to create elevated, intimate portraits where you could truly feel their love.

Anna and Weston were total naturals. They trusted every creative idea, from structured posing to playful movement—and the result was magic.

Discovering Hidden Downtown Gems

After our first round of portraits, we decided to explore the surrounding area. Our only plan was to walk and discover whatever caught our eye. Just a few blocks away, we came across one of my favorite locations: the U.S. National Bank building. I first shot at this location back in December, but had NO idea how close it was to The Benson.

This building is my current absolute favorite recommendation for couples wanting an editorial, urban vibed Portland session. With its grand, dark-toned façade and timeless old money details, it’s the kind of location that elevates a session effortlessly.

Bonus: It’s only a five-minute walk from The Benson, so outfit changes and transitions are easy.

A Final Surprise: Jade Steps + Architectural Drama

As we turned the corner from The Benson, we spotted a light-toned office building with minty jade stairs and soft white columns. We couldn’t resist. These stairs became our one of our portrait stops—and the pastel textures created the dreamiest contrast with their attire.
